Prime Minister Koizumi: Don't send wrong message to Iraq

Referring to the worldwide wave of protest actions against war on Iraq, Prime Minister Koizumi Jun'ichiro said, "We must not send the wrong message to Iraq." He said this on February 17 when he was asked by the press to comment on the anti-war demonstrations all over the world.

At a news conference on the same day, Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Ichida Tadayoshi criticized the prime minister for being hostile to the international anti-war efforts. He said, "It is a shame for the Japanese government to say such things instead of cooperating internationally to achieve peace and abolish weapons of mass destruction." (end)
