Koizumi supports U.S. attempt to have new UNSC resolution adopted
Japan's Prime Minister Koizumi Jun'ichiro expressed support for the United States seeking a new U.N. Security Council resolution to pave the way for the use of force against Iraq during talks with U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell in Tokyo on February 22.
Koizumi commended the United States for continuing in its persevering efforts in the UNSC and told Powell, "We hope you will continue the effort."
The U.S. secretary of state praised Japan's support for the United States in the UNSC.
At a press conference on February 23, when asked about worldwide anti-war protests, Powell said, "People are free to demonstrate, but they don't see the danger the way we see the danger." (end)
