LDP ignores public criticism and continues to seek donations from contractor companies
Akahata of February 19 reported that the ruling Liberal Democratic Party early this month requested the national constructors organization to donate money, raising questions at a time when it is under public criticism for taking money from central and local government contractors in Nagasaki Prefecture.
The Japan Federation of Construction Contractors told Akahata that its member companies are cautious about responding to the LDP request because of the recent Fukui District Court ruling that it is illegal for companies to make political donations when they are in the red.
Akahata criticized the LDP for disregarding the public criticism of the series of scandals involving corporate donations to the LDP.
A major general contractor construction company executive said that he wanted to ask the LDP to stop seeking donations, but that he could not say that openly.
Another company executive said they can no longer give donations to the LDP following the revelation of the scandal in Nagasaki. (end)
