Tokyo governor denies Nanking Massacre
Tokyo Governor Ishihara Shintaro has said there was no such thing as the Nanking Massacre, denying that hundreds of thousands of Chinese citizens were slaughtered by the Japanese Imperial Army in 1937.
Ishihara was speaking in the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly Special Budget Committee meeting on February 24.
"Japan at the time did not have the capacity to systematically kill 400 thousand people in six weeks. Such an incident never happened," Ishihara said.
The Tokyo governor stated that the number of victims of the Nanking Massacre was intentionally exaggerated by the U.S. government at the International Military Tribunal for the Far East (Tokyo Tribunal). (end)
