Anti-nuke activists call on government to stop war cooperation
Members of the Japan Council against A & H Bombs (Japan Gensuikyo) on March 6 visited the Cabinet Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and demanded Japan's effort to peacefully solve the Iraq crisis.
Japan Gensuikyo submitted a petition bearing more than 120,000 signatures opposing the use of nuclear weapons and demanding their abolition.
At the foreign ministry, Gensuikyo Secretary General Takakusagi Hiroshi criticized the government for supporting the U.S. war plan against Iraq. He strongly demanded that Japan oppose the Bush administration's military strategy that includes the use or threat of use of nuclear weapons.
This action was carried out as part of the monthly action on the 6th and 9th days of the month, to remember the atomic bombing of Hiroshima (August 6) and Nagasaki (August 9). (end)
