JCP members call for 'No War on Iraq' at about 10,000 locations throughout Japan

The Japanese Communist Party held an action in opposition to war on Iraq on March 11 at about 10,000 locations throughout Japan.

JCP Chair Shii Kazuo, speaking in front of JR Shinjuku Station in Tokyo, called on the people to make every effort to stop a war, saying, "The danger of a war breaking out is real, but we shouldn't lose sight of the worldwide movement opposing war."

In Sapporo City in Hokkaido, a JCP prefectural member spoke using a microphone early in the morning at a railway station even though the temperature was 6 degrees Centigrade below freezing.

In Okinawa, where 1.3 million residents are burdened with U.S. military bases, the JCP led by local assembly members held street speech assemblies at 11 locations.

JCP branch members in Sendai City in Miyagi Prefecture braved a snowstorm to call on commuting workers to oppose a war on Iraq. (end)
