High school students take to streets in anti-war demonstration

About 60 high school students on April 6 took to the streets of Shibuya, Tokyo's popular downtown district for young people, to demonstrate their opposition to the war on Iraq.

This "peace walk" was organized by a group of high school students who mobilized about 1,500 people of high school age for an anti-war rally on March 21.

Many participants learned of the peace march on the Internet. One of them was impressed by the young organizers of her age actively expressing their opposition to the war. Others brought their handmade placards and banners.

A 17-year-old girl said she supports the statement of the March 21 rally stating, "Voices and actions of people have made history." "Our action is never meaningless," she said. (end)
