Ruling parties want to make political donations by stealth as much as possible
The ruling parties on June 11 decided to introduce a bill allowing the names of companies and business organizations donating money to political parties to be withheld from the public if the amount of their donation is under 240,000 yen instead of the 50,000 yen under the current law.
The Liberal Democratic, Komei, and New Conservative parties will submit the bill in the Diet to revise the Political Funds Control Law that includes this proposal.
Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo at a press conference on the same day said that the bill will worsen political corruption because the proposed measure would help increase covert donations. Shii criticized the ruling coalition for ignoring citizens' anger at money controlled politics. (end)
