U.S. sailor arrested for jewel robbery

Tokyo Police on July 29 arrested 26-year-old petty officer Rick Michael Miller of the U.S. Navy on suspicion of robbery and injury.

The suspect is a crewmember of the 7th Fleet Aegis-guided missile cruiser Vincennes, stationed in the U.S. Yokosuka Naval Base in Kanagawa Prefecture.

Police said that the suspect on July 2 visited a jewelry shop in Tokyo by posing as a customer and asked a shop owner to show him some Rolex watches. The suspect allegedly assaulted the owner with a stun gun and stole watches and jewels valued at about 10-million yen, said police. (end)
