Fuwa and Chinese foreign minister discuss struggle against hegemony, and North Korea question
Japanese Communist Party Central Committee Chair Fuwa Tetsuzo and China's Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing discussed the struggle against hegemony in relation to the Iraq question and the North Korea question in talks held on August 11 at JCP headquarters in Tokyo.
Referring to Fuwa's China visit in August 2002, Li commended the role the JCP has played in the anti-hegemony struggle, saying, "The JCP has shown great militancy and won the hearts of the people."
He also referred to the JCP's contribution to strengthening Japan-China relations, specifically concerning the Taiwan question and historical issues.
JCP CC Chair Fuwa, concerning the task of developing an anti-hegemony struggle, stressed the importance of defending world peace based on the United Nations Charter. He explained that in the revised JCP Program proposed to the 23rd Congress, this issue is on top of the agenda concerning international questions.
Concerning the North Korea question, Fuwa stated that this is a vital issue for the peace and security of China, as well as for the peace of Japan. If North Korea wants to come back again to the international community, there are many hurdles North Korea must get over. In this regard, the JCP wants China to further play a proper role, Fuwa said.
The Fuwa-Li meeting was attended by JCP Chair Shii Kazuo and Secretariat Head Ichida Tadayoshi from the JCP; and Chinese Ambassador to Japan Wu Dawei and Foreign Ministry Asian Department Director Zhuan Bao from the Chinese side. (end)
