JCP representative meets with Malaysian prime minister
Kasai Akira attended the First East Asia Congress held by the Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS Malaysia) in Kuala Lumpur from August 4-6 to discuss political and economic cooperation in East Asian countries.
On the first day, he met with Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir bin Mohamad. Asked about JCP strength by the prime minister, Kasai explained that the JCP "has 400,000 members throughout Japan and 40 parliamentary seats."The figure seemed to have surprised the prime minister.
ISIS Chair Mohamed Noordin Sopiee, sitting to the side of the prime minister, explained that the JCP is a democratic party working toward socialism, and the three had a pleasant conversation. (end)
