JCP & DYLJ campaign for jobs for youth

Hatta Hiroko, Japanese Communist Party member of the House of Councilors on August 31 in Nagoya City took part in a campaign calling for job creation for young people.

The day's action was organized by the Democratic Youth League of Japan.

Hatta and DYLJ members appealed to passers-by saying that jobs can be created for young people if forced overtime work without pay is banned.

In Kyoto City on the same day, DYLJ members with JCP Dietmembers and candidates took to the streets to collect signatures calling on the government to seriously make efforts to help young people solve the difficulty of finding jobs. Demonstrators displayed a set of panels illustrating the reality of unpaid overtime work.

Signing her name on the appeal, a 21-year-old woman college student complained about tight job openings for women, saying, "Most jobs available to us are part-time or on fixed-time contracts."

A 32-year-old male temporary worker said he was very concerned about his uncertain future and marriage prospects.

The job-finding difficulty is said to be a consequence of the current economic recession, but is actually caused by the corporate strategy of constantly seeking to increase profits at the expense of young people, Akahata reported on September 1. (end)
