Oct 15, 2002 5 abductees return to Japan.
Oct 16, 2002 U.S. Assistant Secretary of State James Kelly announces N.Korea has admitted to having a nuclear development program.
Oct 24, 2002 Japan's government decides that the 5 abductees now in Japan will not be allowed to go back to North Korea but that their family members will be allowed to return to Japan.
Oct 29-30, 2002 Japanese and North Korean government representatives hold normalization talks for the first time in two years in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
