Protests raised against U.S. subcritical nuclear test plan

The Japan Council against A & H Bombs (Gensuikyo) and the Japan Peace Committee on September 18 carried out a protest action in front of the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo against the U.S. subcritical nuclear test plan.

Gensuikyo Secretary General Takakusagi Hiroshi read out a letter addressed to U.S. President George W. Bush calling on the United States to withdraw all its nuclear test plans and to immediately fulfill its pledge to abolish nuclear weapons.

Japan Peace Committee representative Sato Mitsuo criticized the United States for trying to develop "usable" nuclear weapons in breach of its promise to abolish nuclear weapons. (end)
