Young people raise voices, 'Give us jobs!'

About 1,000 youth gathered in Tokyo's Miyashita Park on October 19 determined to create a bigger movement urging the government to take measures to increase job opportunities for youth.

They were participants in the "Job for Youth" National Rally organized by labor unions and youth organizations.

Speaking on behalf of the organizers, Himei Jiro, chair of the Democratic Youth League of Japan, reported that about 42,000 signatures have been collected in support of the call for jobs for young people, and received a big round of applause.

Addressing the young demonstrators, Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo said, "Your struggle is nationally significant. Let's increase our movement until it will be as massive as a great river."

After the rally, the participants marched in demonstration through Harajuku, a popular downtown district for young people. (end)
