Shii says JCP will not cooperate with DPJ on the issue of political power after election

Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo has made it clear that the JCP will not support or cooperate with the Democratic Party of Japan in dealing with the issue of political power that may emerge following the November 9 general election. Shii said this at a press conference on November 3.

Shii stated that in this election campaign, Japan's political map has been completely redrawn because the DPJ has abandoned its role as an opposition party, confirming that what the JCP has said regarding the political realignment was accurate.

For example, he said, "The DPJ's 'manifesto' (election platform) calls for a consumption tax increase, constitutional revision, and a reduction in the number of House of Representatives proportional representation seats. These policies show that the DPJ is competing with the LDP for undemocratic policies. This was made clearer in the debate yesterday" (November 2 on TV debate programs).

"Only by achieving a JCP advance in this general election can we fundamentally change away from LDP politics and foil all these policies as well as the attempt to establish a "two-party system" aimed to exclude public participation in politics," Shii said. (end)
