1,700 people at Japan Peace Conference
About 1,700 peace activists, including trade union members and students, assembled in Okinawa for the "Japan Peace Conference in Okinawa" from January 29 to February 1st.
Discussions and other forms of exchanges at this year's Peace Conference focused on ways to stop the dispatch of the Japanese Self-Defense Forces to Iraq as well as on ways to develop the struggle for the dismantling of U.S. military bases in Japan.
The Japan Peace Conference is an annual event sponsored by the organizing committee comprised of the National Confederation of Trade Unions (Zenroren), the Japan Peace Committee, the Japan Council against A & H Bombs, and the Action Committee for the Abrogation of the Japan-U.S. Security Treaty.
