E-mails keep arriving in support of a high school student's peace action
High school student Imamura Ayumi who collected and submitted to Prime Minister Koizumi Jun'ichiro about 5,300 signatures calling for non-military support in Iraq's reconstruction is receiving many e-mails expressing support for her action and criticizing Koizumi's interference in education.
A high school student in Osaka wrote, "It's amazing that you have collected more than 5,000 signatures. Koizumi did the worst thing ever by trampling on your effort and action. He's insulting all high school students and peace-loving people in Japan."
A college student in Kyoto stated, "I really respect what you have done in the interest of Iraqi children. People who criticize you do not comprehend how important their lives are."
At the February 5 House of Councilors Special Committee meeting dealing with Iraq issues, Prime Minister Koizumi stated, "If teachers in classrooms say that SDF units will go to war, use force, or violate the Constitution, it is a problem." He added, "Teachers should concentrate on education of students instead of taking part in political activities."
