DYLJ determined to build stronger organization

The Democratic Youth League of Japan held its 31st National Congress from February 13 to 15 in Tokyo and confirmed that it will study the Japanese Communist Party Program and continue to make efforts to build a stronger organization.

In the three-day discussion, 51 delegates spoke. A man from Kyoto who was forced to retire after being overworked with meeting his quota said, "I studied the new JCP Program and realized the root cause of my suffering is the contradictions inherent in a capitalist society." Several high school students reported their activities in opposition to the Iraq war.

On the second day of the Congress, JCP Central Committee Chair Fuwa Tetsuzo lectured on the new JCP Program in a new century. (See separate item.)

DYLJ Chair Himei Jiro gave the concluding remarks, stating that the discussion revealed how young people are suffering and are denied a humane life in present-day society. The discussion also revealed that an increasing number of young people in such conditions are beginning to take part in DYLJ activities to achieve social progress, he added.

Himei called on the delegates to build a stronger organization made up of young people who will be the key players in making the 21st century's history. (end)
