JCP submits a bill for equal treatment between regular and non-regular workers

The Japanese Communist Party on February 10 submitted to the House of Councilors a bill to guarantee part-timers and workers on fixed-term contracts the same working conditions as regular workers.

The bill, if enacted, will require employers to provide full-timers, part-timers, and workers on fixed-term contracts with equal treatment in such aspects as wages and holidays.

Due to the fact that the current law on part-time employment fails to require employers to equally treat regular and non-regular workers, the gap is widening between the two categories of workers in wages and working conditions.

The number of low-paid workers with unstable part-time jobs, according to the Labor Ministry, is about 12 million, mostly women. (end)
