Komei Party shows its willingness to take part in discussions on constitutional revision

Komei Party Chief Representative Kanzaki Takenori said that his party plans to have in-party discussions on its stance on Article 9 and the preamble of the Constitution before the House of Councilors election in July.

Kanzaki made this remark on February 12 in Beijing during his visit to China.

Expecting that the issue of constitutional revision will be a major issue in the upcoming election, the Komei Party is trying to not fall behind in the debate on constitutional revision relative to the Liberal Democratic Party and the Democratic Party of Japan, Akahata on February 13 pointed out.

The LDP is preparing to compile a draft constitutional revision by 2005. The DPJ has announced that it will complete drafting basic ideas for a constitutional revision by the end of this year. Both parties plan to compile an interim report in time for the House of Councilors election. (end)
