College students discuss Japan's friendship with both Koreas
On February 21 and 22 in Kyoto, about 350 college students and professors took part in a symposium on how to build friendship between Japan and Korea, north and south.
It was organized by a group of Korean residents in Japan and Japanese college students to help develop true friendship between Japan and Korea.
Nakao Hiroshi, visiting professor at Kyoto University of Art and Design, gave the keynote speech about the Korean missions to Japan from 17 to 19 centuries. The unsettled issue of war compensation was reported by Tokyo University Professor Takahashi Tetsuya.
In a discussion, a Korean Kyoto University student said, "It is important that the three countries share the same historical perception. Japanese politicians who make thoughtless remarks should take this issue seriously." (end)
