At the invitation of the Tunisian Ambassador to Japan Salah Hannachi, Japanese Communist Party Central Committee Chair Fuwa Tetsuzo and Executive Committee Chair Shii Kazuo visited the ambassador's official residence in Tokyo on March 1, and held talks for over three hours over dinner.
Also invited to the talks were the following seven ambassadors from the Middle East and Africa; Amar Bendjama (Algeria), James Boliba Baba (Uganda), Mbella Mbella Lejeune (Cameroon), Barfour Adjeibarwuah (Ghana), Muftah Mohammed Faitouri (Libya), Jaafar Moawi (Lebanon), and Samir Issa Naouri (Jordan). Ogata Yasuo, JCP International Department director, participated in the talks.
The exchanges took place at the initiative of the Tunisian Ambassador, who called on his many fellow ambassadors from the Middle East and Africa to attend the talks so that not only he but many others will hear from JCP leaders, and so the JCP leaders will be more acquainted with regional affairs, creating a good occasion for mutual exchanges.
Tunisian Ambassador Hannachi stated that he respects the JCP for its consistent and pioneering role in international politics since the 1970s, expressing his hope that exchanges will focus on diplomatic affairs.
In reply to questions from the ambassadors, Fuwa explained the JCP history of an independent line and its updated policies, his views on the Asian situation, especially Northeast Asia, the development of relations between the JCP and Islamic countries, and the party's basic policy of developing relations with countries in the Middle East and Africa, in addition to domestic politics. The ambassadors offered their views and proposals to the JCP.
Expressing his thanks for the invitation, Fuwa stated that it was a great pleasure for him in that he gained many new friends from the Middle East and African countries, made warm exchanges on issues of world peace, and shared various vital opinions and information. He said that he hopes that further exchanges will take place.
Fuwa presented to the ambassadors profiles on the JCP and his most recent books: "Seven days in Tunisia" and "Five days in Beijing". (end)
