Hungarian WP delegation visits Hiroshima, talks with JCP Dietmembers

A Hungarian Workers' Party delegation visiting Japan at the invitation of the Japanese Communist Party toured the atom-bombed city of Hiroshima and the ancient capital of Kyoto on March 16 and 17.

At Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Museum, the delegation led by HWP president Thurmer Gyula listened to Hibakusha (A-bomb survivors) as well as local JCP committee members talk about the atomic bombing, the after-effects, and the movement for nuclear weapons abolition.

In Kyoto they visited Kiyomizu Temple, which has a platform projecting over a precipice commanding a panoramic view of Kyoto. They also visited a pottery studio. In the evening they met with with JCP activists.

Back in Tokyo the HWP delegation visited the Diet (parliament) on March 18 and met with JCP Dietmembers. Kokuta Keiji, the JCP Diet Policy Commission chair, explained how the JCP works in the Diet to end politics serving the United States and large business corporations. He said that the JCP effort to eliminate overtime work without pay is gradually bearing fruit.

On the same day, the delegation visited the JCP newspaper Akahata editorial office and the printing shop. Sekiguchi Takao, director, said that only Akahata reported on the Iraq War as a war of aggression while commercial papers in Japan accepted the war.

Referring to his experience with the HWP paper, President Thurmer spoke with Akahata reporters. (end)
