Calling for a wage increase and job security for all workers, members of the All-Japan Metal and Information Machinery Workers' Union (JMIU) on March 25 carried out strikes.
In front of the NCR Japan ( a U.S.-based computer manufacturer) main office in Tokyo about 80 members of the JMIU NCR branch went on a strike, holding banners and placards.
Speaking to the strikers, NCR branch chair Mastuura Takashi criticized the NCR management for forcing workers to endure hardships through wage cuts and restructuring. "The company management must first accept responsibility for the poor business performance," he stressed.
Matsuura also called for success in a "pension strike" on April 15 organized by the National Confederation of Trade Unions (Zenroren) as part of the efforts to block the government attempt to force citizens to pay more for maintaining the pension system. (end)
