Drunken U.S. soldiers arrested for stealing fishing boat
Two drunken soldiers of the U.S. Sasebo Naval Base in southern Japan were arrested on April 12 on suspicion of stealing a fishing boat.
They were discovered in the boat stranded in the shallows. Police said they admitted to committing the theft.
Police suspected that the U.S. sailors boarded the ship that was moored at a pier late at night, but it became stranded in the shallows about 300 meters off the shore. The engine key is believed to have been carelessly left in the lock.
A male employee of the ship's company living near the pier heard the engine, and reported the theft to the company president. (end)
