JCP International Bureau Chief Ogata Yasuo talks with Cuban ambassador
Cuban ambassador Hernandez Guillen on May 17 visited Ogata Yasuo, Japanese Communist Party International Bureau director, at the JCP head office.
The ambassador spoke about the new sanctions the U.S. Bush administration announced on May 6 with the aim of toppling the Cuban government. The measure includes restricting home visits of Cubans living in the United States to once in three years, limiting their remittance to relatives, and allowing U.S. military aircraft to fly over the country for strategic broadcasting. He criticized the latest sanction as "a new form of intervention and a violation of Cuban sovereignty."
Handing to Ogata the latest statement of the Cuban government and the Communist Party of Cuba, the ambassador also emphasized that in spite of increasing prices caused by U.S. sanctions, his government would maintain social programs protecting people's health and culture.
Ogata said, "The U.S. measure seriously infringes upon national sovereignty and the right of national self-determination, and we cannot condone such a measure in the light of international law." (end)
