JCP calls for base-free Okinawa in prefectural assembly election
In the Okinawa Prefectural Assembly election slated for June 6, the Japanese Communist Party is calling on voters to pass a critical verdict on the ruling Liberal Democratic and Komei parties which are forcing working people to pay more for pension funds and to continue to endure the burden of the U.S. military presence.
Speaking in the streets of Tomigusuku and Itoman cities on May 28, JCP Diet Policy Commission Chair Kokuta Keiji called on Okinawans to support the JCP in order to defend their living conditions and peace, stressing that the JCP is the only national party calling for the Japan-U.S. Security Treaty to be abrogated.
Seventy-two candidates, including six from the JCP, are contesting 42 seats in the prefectural assembly. The JCP currently has 4 seats. (end)
