Shii talks with the Eritrean Ambassador
Estifanos Afeworki Haile, Eritrean Ambassador to Japan visited Japanese Communist Party Executive Committee Chair Shii Kazuo on June 8 at the JCP head office in Tokyo. This was the first meeting between the JCP and Eritrean Embassy.
Eritrea, a new country founded in 1993, is located in northeast Africa, the region often referred to as a crossroads of various nationalities where Islam, Christianity, and Judaism coexist.
Explaining the border dispute between Eritrea and Ethiopia, the ambassador handed Shii a letter from Alamin Mohamed Said, secretary general of the ruling People's Front for Democracy and Justice.
Shii said, "Border disputes in Africa are a legacy of colonialism. They are so complicated that it is very important to solve them in compliance with law and reason."
They also discussed the Middle East question. Shii explained the JCP's stance toward the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and said that the JCP has developed its diplomatic activities to a great extent and thinks dialogue and coexistence are important among different cultures.
Ogata Yasuo, director of the JCP International Bureau, was also present at the talks. (end)
