Local cities say no to NLP relocation to their region
On July 23, representatives of cities hosting the U.S. Iwakuni Marine Air Station made representations to the Foreign Ministry in opposition to a reported plan to relocate a carrier-based aircraft unit and its "night landing practice" (touch-and-go exercises) from the U.S. Atsugi Naval Air Facility.
Municipal employees of Iwakuni City and Yuya Town in Yamaguchi Prefecture demanded that the government give them detailed information regarding the relocation plan because it may adversely affect their municipalities.
A ministry official said that the government has not officially received a proposal on the relocation of the U.S. forces. (end)
