Chinese Ambassador Wu Dawei bids farewell to JCP Chair Shii The outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Japan, Wu Dawei, visited Japanese Communist Party Executive Committee Chair Shii Kazuo at the JCP head office on August 9 to bid farewell. Wu said he is glad to have been able to complete his three-year tenure although there have been some problems, including the Japanese prime minister's Yasukuni Shrine visit and the latest affair of soccer supporters. He also expressed satisfaction with the smooth development of relations between the Communist Party of China and the JCP. Referring to the affair that occurred at the soccer Asia Cup in China, Shii said, "I am saddened by the recent affair that was contrary to good sportsmanship. It is not appropriate to politicize sports." At the same time he stressed that politicians have the responsibility to pick a thorn out of Chinese people's hearts by resolving the historical problem. Shii said the Chinese government and the JCP share the same view on the Iraq War, a view shared also by a majority of the world. "We are paying attention to China's initiatives for peace in East Asia," he added. (end) |
