Court orders halt to Isahaya Bay reclamation

The Saga District Court on August 26 issued a provisional order to suspend construction of an inner dike in the Isahaya Bay in Saga Prefecture, upholding the fishermen's claim that such work has adverse effects on fisheries in the Sea of Ariake.

Ishaya Bay was shut down by sluice gates in 1997, and various adverse effects were recorded in the marine environment. The lawsuit was filed by 106 fishermen. (end)
