Construction workers resolve to struggle against war and poverty The All Japan Construction and Transport and General Workers Union held its 6th regular convention for 3 days from August 28 in Ito city in Shizuoka prefecture. Chair Sakata Shinsaku emphasized the need to base their struggle on defending the Constitution and thereby oppose unemployment, poverty, and Japan going to war. During the discussion, there was agreeent that it will require much energy to drive home to young people the serious consequences in case Article 9 is deleted or changed. Delegates also discussed the increasing replacement of full-time workers by part-timers and contingent workers on short-term contracts. The convention closed on August 30 after resolving to promote efforts to oppose constitutional revision and to bring victory to the pending lawsuits over the reemployment of dismissed former Japan Railway workers and tunnel workers' lung disease.
