Ginowan mayor urges U.S. forces to go, if they want to reduce danger The mayor of Ginowan City, Okinawa, on September 22 led a delegation to the U.S. Forces in Japan headquarters at the U.S. Yokota Air Base in the suburbs of Tokyo and handed a city assembly resolution calling for the U.S. Marine Corps Futenma Air Station to be returned to the city as promptly as possible. The delegation, made up of representatives of constituencies that co-sponsored the Ginowan Citizens Rally held on September 12 in protest against the U.S. Marines helicopter crash (Aug. 13), submitted to a U.S. commander thousands of signatures bearing the demand for the return of the Futenma base. The U.S. Forces had refused to meet with the delegation until the previous day. (end) |
