Ginowan City protests resumption of U.S. military flights Okinawa's Ginowan City Assembly on October 14 adopted a unanimous resolution in protest against the resumption of U.S. Marine Corps CH53D helicopter flights, the same type of helicopter as the one that crashed at a university campus in the city in August. The resolution criticized the U.S. forces for resuming the flights on October 13 without providing the residents with a convincing explanation as to what kind of preventive measures they will take and in disregard of the shock many residents have experienced following the August 13 CH53D crash. The city assembly also expressed its strong protest against the Japanese government for approving the resumption of flights. The resolution called for an immediate halt to U.S. flight activities over residential areas and an early removal of the U.S. Marine Corps Futenma Air Station. (end) |
