Fuwa expresses condolences on Arafat's death On the death of Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat, Japanese Communist Party Central Committee Chair Fuwa Tetsuzo sent the following meesage of condolence on November 11 to the Palestinian Authority: On the death of Yasser Arafat, president of the Palestinian Authority, I would like to offer my condolences with deepest sorrow to his family and to all the Palestinian people. The life of President Arafat was dedicated to the liberation of Palestine and the establishment of a Palestinian state. I held talks with him twice in Tokyo, and we had frank discussions on the great cause of the Palestinian liberation movement and complicated issues relating to terrorism and other matters, on which we found many points of agreement. This is an unforgettable memory for me. Your struggle is in a complicated and critical situation. I hope from the bottom of my heart that the Palestinian people will overcome the sorrow of the passing of Chairman Arafat, holding fast to the banner of the liberation of Palestine, further developing international solidarity, and will take a powerful step forward toward establishing the Palestinian state and stable peace in the Middle East.
