JCP donates 100 million yen to disaster-hit areas

The Japanese Communist Party's disaster relief task force has delivered a total of 100 million yen in relief donations to municipalities that were struck by recent earthquakes and typhoons.

Akahata on November 11 reported that as of November 8, the JCP collected about 104.3 million yen in relief donations from its members, supporters' organizations, and individuals from all 47 prefectures.

The JCP has delivered a total of 95.5 million yen to Niigata Prefecture and its 24 municipalities damaged by the earthquake as well as 82 municipalities hard hit by typhoons.

About 4,780 JCP members and 1,541 union workers or members of democratic organizations have so far volunteered to carry out relief activities.

On November 10, a JCP relief center opened an open-air free clothes market in Kawaguchi Town, the hardest-hit district of the Niigata Prefecture earthquake.

The previous day, when the center's volunteers delivered winter clothes to the town, pleased townspeople asked the volunteers to come back with more clothes. (end)
