Diet must hurry into relieving quake victims: opposition parties Secretaries general of the opposition Japanese Communist, Democratic, and Social Democratic parties on November 11 jointly called for an early enactment of their joint disaster relief bill for victims of recent disasters, including the earthquake in Niigata Prefecture. The opposition bill calls for amending the current law which does not cover houses that are not destroyed though unusable. The opposition leaders, including JCP Secretariat Head Ichida Tadayoshi, also agreed that they will urge the coalition government to summon witnesses and hold intensive discussions concerning the 100 million yen secret donation from the Japan Dental Association to the Liberal Democratic Party's former Hashimoto faction, a tip of the iceberg of the "money and political corruption" issues.
