JCP relieved to see Chinese submarine affair resolved constructively

The Japanese Communist Party said it was relieved to see the incident of violation of Japanese territorial waters by a Chinese submarine resolved in a forward-looking manner.

In a published statement on November 16, JCP Secretariat Head Ichida Tadayoshi stated:

"The JCP has requested that the Chinese government swiftly make clear whether the submarine suspected of intruding into Japanese territorial waters was a Chinese submarine and whether it really violated Japan's territorial waters and that it accept its responsibility for the violation if that's the case.

"On November 16, the Chinese government admitted that its nuclear-powered submarine had violated Japan's territorial waters and expressed regret over the incident. The JCP is relieved that the affair has been resolved in a forward-looking manner. " (end)
