Fuwa speaks on the vitality of 'Capital' Fuwa Tetsuzo, Japanese Communist Party Central Committee chair, spoke on the significance of Marx's Capital in the present-day world before an audience of 600 in Tokyo on November 23. The theme of the lecture was the "Significance of reading 'Capital' in the 21st century world." Explaining why he underlined the "21st century," Fuwa said: "Marx wrote 'Capital' in hopes to help to shorten the period of struggle and reduce hardships that humankind will have to experience to achieve a new society. The 21st century is an era in which we will face such difficulties in real terms. In this sense, we are in the era in which 'Capital' will be the lodestar of our lives."
