JCP wins the right to propose bills in a city assembly election

In the city assembly election of Maebashi, the capital of Gunma Prefecture, on February 20, the Japanese Communist Party succeeded in getting five out of seven of its candidates elected to the assembly members and gaining the right to submit bills to the assembly.

By political party, the JCP became the dominant political force in the assembly followed by the Komei Party with four seats, the Democratic Party with one seat, the Social Democratic Party with one seat, along with 35 independents.

The JCP also secured four incumbent seats in the city assembly election of Oita, the capital of Oita Prefecutre. (end)
