Citizens: U.S. Army 1st Corps Command must not come to Camp Zama Citizens' groups in Zama and Sagamihara cities hosting the U.S. Army Camp Zama on February 18 visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, demanding that the Japanese government urge the U.S. government to foil its plan to deploy U.S. Army 1st Corps Command to Camp Zama from the U.S. mainland. Members of two associations represented by Kamoi Yoko for Zama and Nakazato Tatsuo for Sagamihara told MOFA officials that the planned deployment will further threaten citizens' safety and contradict their long-lasting desire that the camp site be returned to citizens. They also stressed that they are opposed to the planned U.S. military transformation concerning U.S. bases in Japan and that details of the Japan-U.S. Security Consultative Committee (SCC) meetings, including the one on February 19, be made available to the public.
