UNHCR appreciates JCP's monetary contribution to tsunami victims Pirkko Kourula, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) regional representative in Japan, on March 4 visited the Japanese Communist head office in Tokyo to express appreciation for the JCP's donation of money to help survivors of the tsunami that struck Indian Ocean countries late last year. Ms. Kourula delivered a certificate of merit to JCP House of Councilors members Koike Akira and Yoshikawa Haruko, expressing thanks to the JCP for paying attention to disasters not only in Japan but also abroad. Koike said, "The money we donated was contributed by many people in response to the JCP call." The JCP on February 15 donated about 7,594,000 yen to the UNHCR Japan. (end) |
