JCP Shii holds talks with Cuban parliamentary vice president

Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on March 30 at the JCP head office met with Jaime Crombet Hern?dez-Baquero, the Cuban National Assembly vice president who was visiting Japan at the invitation of the House of Representatives.

Crombet spoke about how Japan-Cuba relations are developing and explained the present Cuban situation.

Concerning the Free Trade Areas of the Americas (FTAA) plan, he criticized the U.S. for attempting to again put Latin America under U.S. control and stressed that an anti-FTAA united front is taking shape mainly with Southern Common Market (Mercosur) members participating.

Referring to the establishment of progressive governments in a number of Latin American countries, Shii stated that successful Cuban efforts to bring about a progressive change in the last half century in defiance of U.S. interventions and interference have helped to make such dramatic changes in Latin America.

The meeting was also attended by Nishiguchi Hikaru, JCP International Bureau Director, and Herminio L—pez D’az, the counselor of the Cuban Embassy in Tokyo. (end)
