JCP slogans for 76th May Day The Japanese Communist Party on April 24 published the following JCP slogans for the 76th May Day celebration. - Oppose the adverse revision of the Constitution that will turn Japan into a nation that fights wars abroad; develop the popular movement to defend the war-renouncing Article 9 of the Constitution, the pride of the world. - At the 60th year after the end of World War II, we oppose any attempt to praise the Japanese war of aggression and colonialism and call for the development of heart-to-heart friendship and exchanges with other Asian peoples. - Stop the illegal U.S. occupation of Iraq to begin U.N.-led reconstruction efforts; withdraw the Japanese Self-Defense Forces from Iraq now; abrogate the Japan-U.S. Security Treaty; abolish nuclear weapons now. - Stop the substantial increase in the consumption tax rate and revoke the decision to abolish the fixed-rate tax cuts; cut wasteful public works projects and military expenditure; and ask large corporation to share proper burdens of social security services and fiscal reconstruction. - Stop the expansion of low-wage, unstable jobs; establish rules for protecting citizens' rights as well as jobs and living standards; defend local economies and stop environmental destruction; and demand that large corporations fulfill their social responsibility. - Oppose a "two-party system" that will endanger the future course of Japan; change politics by achieving victory in the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly election; work to build an independent, peaceful and democratic Japan.
