Fuwa gives lecture to 600 college students in Kyoto Japanese Communist Party Chair Fuwa Tetsuzo on May 21 spoke with about 600 college students in Kyoto about the future of the world and higher education. The speech assembly was sponsored by the Democratic Youth League of Japan Kyoto University branch as an event welcoming university freshmen. Participants included many students from other universities in Kyoto City who found out about the event through fliers. Stressing how important it is for students in the turbulent era to "grasp the whole picture of nature and society," Fuwa talked about how the scientific view on the nature has changed in the late 20th century. He also spoke about the aberrant feature of Japanese society compared to other capitalistic societies, and about the capitalist world which is facing the end of its period of existence. Fuwa concluded his speech by saying, "I hope you will remember that there is a political party that strongly wishes for young Japanese people to devote themselves to activities to positively change the society." A Kyoto University sophomore said, "I didn't expect to hear such a global outlook." A freshman said, "He taught me the importance of seeing the whole picture of society. I want to study many different fields at university." - Akahata, May 22, 2005 |
