Ichida: Stop visiting Yasukuni before building a new memorial! Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Ichida Tadayoshi said that his party supports the proposal for a new national facility to remember the war dead if it is based on remorse for Japan's war of aggression and colonialism, adding that the first thing Prime Minister Koizumi Jun'ichiro must do is to stop visiting Yasukuni Shrine. Speaking at the news conference on June 20 in the Diet Building, Ichida said, "No matter if the new facility is to be established or not, the country's top leader should immediately stop visiting Yasukuni Shrine, which justifies Japan's past war of aggression." He added, "It will be appropriate to establish a facility based on national consensus in remembrance of the war dead in deep remorse over the war of aggression." -- Akahata, June 21, 2005 |
