World women's quilt for peace relayed to Osaka

Calling for the defense of the Constitution's Article 9 and "No more Hiroshimas and Nagasakis," about 600 women from the New Japan Women's Association and other women's organizations took part in the "2005 World Women's March in Osaka" on July 2, carrying banners of colorful quilts.

This was the second event of this kind. The first one was held in 2000. Chanting, "Another world free from war, poverty, and violence is possible," the marchers carried the "solidarity quilts" as part of the effort to spread the cause of the "Women's Global Charter of Humanity."

The quilts left Brazil "International Women's Day" on March 8th and was carried through more than 30 countries, including Cuba, the United States, France and Australia before reaching Japan on June 30. It was relayed to South Korea on July 3. They will reach Burkina Faso in West Africa, the final destination, on October 17, the "International Day for the Eradication of Poverty." - Akahata, July 3, 2005
