Unions stage day of action demanding an increase in minimum wage raise The National Confederation of Trade Unions (Zenroren) and other union groups staged the 3rd "Day of Action Calling for Increase in Minimum Wage" on July 14 in Tokyo. The action was organized to put pressure on the government Council on the Minimum Wage, which held a meeting on the same day to discuss the standards amount of regional minimum wages. Japan does not have a national uniform minimum wage system. About 300 workers, mainly government workers, carried out a lunch hour demonstration calling the for a national minimum wage system to be established.
