JCP leaders call for redoubling efforts to achieve JCP advance

The Japanese Communist Party on July 20 held a speech assembly in Tokyo to mark its 83rd founding anniversary (July 15) with JCP Executive Committee Chair Shii Kazuo and JCP Secretariat Head Ichida Tadayoshi as the main speakers.

With a general election likely to be held later this year, in addition to an audience of about 2,000 at Hibiya Pubic Hall, many JCP members as well as supporters throughout Japan listened to the speeches via the communication satellite system.

Touching on major political issues in Japan's 60 years since the end of WWII and on the roles and challenges facing the JCP, Shii emphasized the importance of working hard to strengthen JCP ties with the public while increasing the party membership and Akahata readership in preparation for a possible dissolution of the House of Representative and a general election.

JCP Policy Commission Chair Koike Akira introduced 13 newly elected JCP members of the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly.

The audience was delighted to listen to JCP local municipal heads speaking with humor.

A Liberal Democratic Party supporter, who just happened to drop by the hall, said to an Akahata reporter, "I'd been wanting to listen to the JCP. I felt that the hall was filled with a belief that the JCP truly cares for the people."

A young woman said, "I will seriously consider becoming a JCP member," after listening to Ichida saying, "History always develops with the young generations of the times." -- Akahata, July 21, 2005
